This creamy chicken pasta has a light buttery, lemon cream sauce and fresh basil. It's a quick and easy 30 minute weeknight meal and you probably have a lot of the ingredients already in your fridge.
I can't stress how simple this week's recipe is. At just 30 minutes to make you can't skip this one! And the whole family loves it - including the kids, which is always a win.
This dinner is made with basic ingredients. The sauce is made with more chicken broth then it is cream, so it's not a heavy sauce.
You can even prepare it ahead of time and heat it back up on the stove when you are ready to serve dinner. The pasta will absorb some of the liquid so you will need to add some more chicken broth and cream back in when you reheat if making it ahead of time is something you want to do.

Creamy Chicken Pasta With Lemon and Basil
This creamy chicken pasta has a light buttery, lemon cream sauce and fresh basil. It's a quick and easy 30 minute weeknight meal and you probably have a lot of the ingredients already in your fridge.
Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken thighs
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp butter
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 c chicken broth
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- ⅓ c heavy cream
- 10 oz penne (or any pasta noodle)
- 5 large basil leaves, chopped
chicken seasoning
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp dried marjoram
- ¼ tsp dried thyme
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp pepper
Instructions
- Boil the pasta and set aside
- Heat your pan on medium heat, with the olive oil
- Mix together the chicken seasoning ingredients and rub over the chicken thighs
- Cook the chicken thighs in the pan, turning half way through, cook until no longer pink in the middle then set aside
- Turn heat down to low
- Melt the butter in the pan then add the minced garlic and lemon zest, stirring for 2 minutes until fragrant
- Pour in the chicken broth, lemon juice and heavy cream
- Turn the heat up to get the liquid to a low boil for 2 minutes, careful it's not too hot and burns the sauce
- Turn the heat down to low
- Chop up the chicken and add it to the pan along with the cooked pasta
- Chop the basil and add it to the pan, mix everything together
- The sauce will be very thin at this point, as it cools it should thicken slightly (keep in mind the sauce for this recipe is intended to be creamy and thin, not super thick)
- Serve
Notes
The sauce will be thin, to help keep it healthier. If you want a really thick sauce you need to leave out the chicken broth completely and add more cream.
